System integration

[System operation with SMCP] [System operation with custom application]

The OLTOM PWM design is both modular and flexible: Several cards can be chained together using an integrated communication bus; and the controlling software application can be changed without any hardware or driver changes.

In the example on the left the SMCP program is controlling the stepping and sequencing of all eight motors. In the example on the right a customer application — perhaps written in C# or C++ — is directly interfacing to the OLTOM SMCP COM-driver.

Modular System Design

The modular software design directly translates into quicker and less costly system designs: The hardware can be developed and tested with the SMCP program without any programming skills. Later a custom application — if so desired — can be developed for e.g. better integration or access to more powerful programming languages.

There is no need to change any hardware or drivers if changing from SMCP to a custom program. Both environments are exactly the same from the COM driver downwards.

X-Y Table for Drilling

[XY table example]

A number of highly integrated applications can easily be built round an OLTOM PWM system. For example, an XY table for drilling or other machining can be assembled from a minimum of components.

Usually it is not necessary to develop any custom software. The SMCP sequencing functions are good enough for most purposes.

The system program can also quickly be changed: Just open a new sequence file in the SMCP program.
